A morning greeting
with obscurity blanketing
the backyard, barely a glimpse beyond
the shed, blueberry shrubs
drowned in the mist.
This is a momentary
impairment. I know what
lies beyond, I’ve walked these woods
in the sun, caressed the bark
of the eastern white pines.
But, here I stand, tangled
in a web of thoughts, uncertain
of what may come in the morrow.
They say inaction leads to doubt,
and doubt breeds fear.
A doe, timid, breaks
my mental rambling, peeking
through the veil, enjoying the greener
grass beyond where her vision
once held her back.
We can either wallow
in life’s confusion, grapple
with its chaos, or rise up
and shatter the barriers
that hold us back.
I, for one, shall live
with determination in heart,
find the courage to know
myself anew, and journey
to where I belong.
