When the lights eventually dim in
the Cosmos and i disappear into the ether,
will my life here on this terrestrial orb
have meant anything? I scrape and claw
my way through life, hoping to catch
a glimpse of the Divine only to have
dust return to dust. What happens
then? Do I evaporate like the morning
fog, or is my spirit carried off into
the next life, a feather in the wind?
Like many, I am drawn to the far
and beyond, to that which escapes
my vision. I search for the meaning
of life, a pursuit that transcends
the boundaries of speech. I direct
my questions to the starry skies,
yet their answers, in this fragment
of eternity are often in short supply.
Despite my prodding the heavens
remain cloaked in the veil.
I’m trapped in this ever-eroding
vessel of flesh and bone that neither
marks my beginning nor represents
my end. And yet, for all its fragility, its
shortcomings, its aches and pains,
I embrace my humanity for all its worth.
Much like an instrument in the grand
symphony of life, I play my soul notes
for the Earth to hear, and I will do so
until my spirit, once again, takes flight.
